The novel starts with seventeen year-old Mia and her family celebrating an unexpected snow day at home in her Oregon hometown. If I Stay is a powerful young adult novel by Gayle Forman, which asks the question: what would you do if it was up to you as to whether you live or die? The jumps in the book are good but the emotions weren't there, and the humor in the movie is all gone in the book it's all drama. Don't get me wrong, they are similar, but not exact. The movie was amazing in jumping through scenes, emotions, and decisions, from the past to the present. The author didn't write much about her losing her parents she concentrated on her younger brother and her boyfriend Adam.

The movie shows you the pain of the accident, the loss not just for Mia, but all around her, the full life she and her family led, the beauty of her music, her lovely family. I hated the 'no chapters' aspect of the book, and sadly I prefer the movie over the book. So now I'm actually reading the first book.įinishing it though was another thing all together. I didn't know that with so much tragedy this story would be so happy, so romantic, so poetic and musical. I saw both books many times in local libraries, but the gloomy effect of the covers and words made me stay away. The moment I finished watching 'If I Stay' in cinema, I knew I had to buy the books and read them. Once I'm done with both, you will find my reviews separated on each book. I also put both separate books on my Goodreads shelves because I don't like to mix things up. I fell in love with the movie deeply, so I had to get the books, and see what would happen to Mia and Adam. A few days ago, I bought this collection in the Christmas department in the store, and I can't emphasize enough how this series was flying off the shelves! I think the girls were feeling what I felt watching 'If I Stay' in the cinema two months ago.
